Cyr Earns NE-10 Cross Country Athlete & Rookie of the Week Honors

Douglas, Mass. native finished third overall at Shacklette Invitational in 19:05

EASTON, Mass. (September 9, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Athlete and Rookie of the Week for women's cross country, the league office announced yesterday.

Making her collegiate debut on Saturday at the Shacklette Invitational on the campus of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, Cyr registered a third-place finish out of nearly 120 participants with a time of 19:05 on the five-kilometer course. The freshman was the top finisher among NE-10 participants as No. 18 Stonehill placed second in the eight-team field.

Cyr was one of four Skyhawk freshmen running in their first collegiate races on Saturday, along with Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan), Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) and Anna Devitto (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke). Cutillo joined Cyr in the top-10 with her seventh-place finish in 19:17, while Caiazzi (19:38) and Devitto (19:57) placed 14th and 21st, respectively.

A 2015 graduate of Douglas High School, Cyr earned Dual Valley Conference (DVC) All-Star honors for cross country all four years, and she was named DVC Runner of the Year as a senior.

On the men's side, junior Antonio Xelhua (Arlington, Massachusetts/Arlington) earned a spot on the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll after leading No. 21 Stonehill to the team title with his fifth-place finish in 26:56.

Stonehill will be off next weekend before returning to action on September 19th at the Kutztown Division II/Division III Challenge, hosted by Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
