Sophomore Nicole Borofski was the top NE-10 finisher at Saturday's NCAA Championship, as she placed 65th overall in 22:43.2.

Duo led Stonehill to 19th-place finish at NCAA Championships on Saturday

EASTON, Mass. (December 9, 2014) – Stonehill College sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) have both earned weekly cross country honors from the Northeast-10 Conference, the league office announced this morning.

Borofski and Knox were named NE-10 Athlete and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after helping lead Stonehill to a 19th-place team finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II women's cross country championships at E.P. "Tom " Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday.

Borofski was the top female finisher from the NE-10, as she completed the 5.78-kilometer course in 22:43.2 to place 65th overall in the field of 249 competitors. The sophomore bettered her finish at the NCAA Championships by 155 spots after a 220th-place showing as a freshman in 2013 in 24:26.2.

Borofski, who led Stonehill to its sixth consecutive NE-10 Championship on November 9th and a runner-up finish at the NCAA East Region Championship two weekends later, earned All-Conference and All-Region accolades with her second and third-place finishes at the two races, respectively. The 2013 NE-10 Rookie of the Year is being recognized as the NE-10 Athlete of the Week for the third time this fall.

A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track for the Eagles. She earned All-State honors in cross country all four years, and served as a team captain for both cross country and track as a junior and senior.

Knox, an All-Conference second team and All-East Region performer as a freshman, capped her impressive rookie campaign on Saturday by placing 123rd and clocking in at 23:06.7. Knox was the third Skyhawk to cross the finish line (after Borofski and senior Emily Anderson), despite losing the spikes on her left foot a mile into the race and completing the remaining 2-plus miles in just a sock on the wet and muddy course.

The Worcester, Mass. native opened her collegiate career with an 11th place effort in 19:42.9 at the five-kilometer Shacklette Invitational on September 6th, before breaking into the top-10 the following week with a ninth place performance in 23:32 at the DII/DIII Challenge. Knox earns NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this fall, which is tied for most in the conference.

A 2014 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, Knox competed in both cross country and track & field for the Rebels, serving as a team captain for indoor track as a junior, and cross country, indoor, and outdoor track as a senior. She was a member of cross country teams that earned district runner-up finishes as a junior and senior, and indoor/outdoor track teams that captured the district championship as a senior.

This marks the third time this fall that Borofski and Knox have been recognized together by the NE-10. Borofski collected the first NE-10 Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor of her career on October 9th after posting a career-best time of 21:46, the second-fastest six-kilometer time in program history, at the Paul Short Collegiate Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Knox earned her second Rookie of the Week honor after turning in a time of 22:21, good for 186th overall and third among Skyhawks, at the same meet. The duo was also honored together on November 25th following their All-Region performances.
