Borofski leads all Northeast-10 runners with 65th place finish for Skyhawks
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 6, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked 20th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Division II rankings, posted a 19th place team finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II women's cross country championships at E.P. "Tom " Sawyer State Park as part of the NCAA Fall Championships Festival this afternoon.
Stonehill finished second among East Region teams at the Championship and first among the two Northeast-10 Conference qualifiers with its 503 points. Grand Valley State University ran away with the team championship with 50 points as it swept the top three spots, led by sophomore Kendra Foley, who took the individual title by completing the 5.78-kilometer course, which was shortened from the usual 6K due to course condition due to heavy rains all week in Louisville, in 21-minutes, 5.80-seconds. Hillsdale College finished second in the team standings with 115 points, while the University of Minnesota-Duluth rounded out the top three (118).

Sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) led Stonehill and was the top Northeast-10 finisher by completing the course in 22:43.3 for 65th place overall out of 249 individual competitors. Senior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester) placed 114th overall in 22:59.8, while freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) finished 123rd in 23:06.7 despite losing the spikes on her left foot a mile into the race and completing the remaining 2-plus miles in just a sock in the wet and muddy course.
Sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished 138th with a time of 23:18.0 for Stonehill and then classmate Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) rounded out the Skyhawks five scoring runners in 154th with a time of 23:27.7.
Borofski finished 155 places higher than her NCAA Championships debut in 2013 when she placed 220th (24:26.2). All seven Stonehill runners finished in the top 200 today with all four runners making return appearances bettering their efforts at the national meet. Anderson topped a 161st place finish in 2012 (22:52.0), while McAdams improved on a 216th place finish last season (24:18.1) and senior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) improved on a 200th place finish last fall (23:48.8) with her 170th place finish in 23:36.2. In addition to NCAA Championships debuts for Buonfiglio and Knox, senior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) ran her first NCAA Championship in her final collegiate race, placing 182nd in 23:47.5.
Roberts Wesleyan University paced the three East Regional qualifiers at the Championship in ninth place out of 32 teams at the event overall with 295 points, followed by Stonehill and then fellow Northeast-10 member Saint Michael's College in 30th (865).
Stonehill, which captured its sixth straight Northeast-10 Conference championship earlier this fall, was making its 15th consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships.
