Skyhawks secure 15th straight trip to NCAA Championship
NASHUA, N.H. (November 22, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 25 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked second in the East Region, placed six of its seven entries inside the top-25 to secure a second-place finish today at the NCAA East Region Championship, held at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, New Hampshire, and hosted by Franklin Pierce University and Merrimack College.
Stonehill's performance was good enough to earn the program's 15th consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship, which will be held this year on December 6th as part of the NCAA Fall Festival at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), who paced the Skyhawks two weekends ago with her second-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, accomplished the same feat today, as she earned her second straight All-Region honor by placing third overall in 21:48.8 on the six-kilometer course.
Senior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester) followed Borofski in sixth place, posting the second All-Region performance of her career and first since 2012, as she clocked in with a career-best time of 22:08.1.
Freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy), who earned second team All-Conference honors at the NE-10 Championship, turned in a tenth-place effort today with a season-best time of 22:18.0.
Senior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle Cassidy) was the fourth Skyhawk to cross the finish line, doing so in 22:23.3, good for 13th overall, while sophomore Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) placed 16th with a time of 22:26.7. Venturo earns All-Region honors for the second straight season, while McAdams does so for the first time. Both posted personal best times in helping the Skyhawks to their runner-up finish.

Rounding out Stonehill's six All-Region performers today was sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield), who finished 25th out of 185 overall entries and earned a time of 22:51.5.
Senior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) was the final Skyhawk to complete today's course, doing so in 23:24.3, good for 43rd overall.
Stonehill finished second out of 27 teams with a total of 45 points. Roberts Wesleyan University won the East Region title with 31 points, and also boasted the individual champion in senior Rachel Prutsman. Saint Michael's College (121 points), LIU Post (189 points), and St. Thomas Aquinas College (206 points) rounded out the top five.
NE-10 Coach of the Year Karen Boen was impressed with the way her team banded together to accomplish its goals. "It's a battle every year," Boen said. "Our team really concentrates on the fact that we have to do it collectively. A lot of people really stepped up today. I'm not easily impressed, and I'm extremely impressed, and extremely proud with the way we competed."
