Sophomore Nicole Borofski finishes 27th in 18:49 to lead Skyhawks
BOSTON, Mass. (October 26, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 24 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked second in the East Region, posted a fourth-place finish today at the 24th Boston Athletic Association Mayor's Cup, held at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
For the third time this season, sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) paced the Skyhawks, as she finished 27th overall with a time of 18:49 on the five-kilometer course. Borofski recorded the second-best finish among collegiate entries, behind only Chloe Boutelle of Saint Michael's College, who placed 26th.
Senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy), who led the way for Stonehill last weekend with her seventh-place finish at the Gates Farm NE-10 Preview Meet, turned in a 35th-place effort today and clocked in at 19:09.
Sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) and freshman Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) were the next two Skyhawks to cross the finish line, doing so back-to-back in 43rd and 44th-place, respectively. Buonfiglio earned a time of 19:21, while Schultz finished in 19:25.
Senior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) placed 48th with a time of 19:30, and junior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) posted a 19:45 mark, good for 57th overall.
Rounding out Stonehill's entries today were freshmen Kiera Murray (Falmouth, Maine/Cheverus) and Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy), who finished 61st and 95th, respectively. Murray earned a time of 19:55, while McGlone turned in a 21:22 mark.
Stonehill placed fourth out of ten teams with a total of 129 points. The Boston Athletic Association team won the meet with 15 points, followed by New Balance Boston (47 points) and Greater Boston TC (92 points). The Skyhawks registered the best score among the collegiate teams in the field, beating out Northeast-10 Conference members Saint Michael's College (5th place), Merrimack College (6th), and Bentley University (9th).
Stonehill will be off next weekend before returning to action on Sunday, November 9th, when the Skyhawks will attempt to capture their sixth consecutive NE-10 Championship in Rindge, New Hampshire.
