#24 Stonehill Finishes Second At Gates Farm NE-10 Preview Meet


Senior Brianna Venturo led Stonehill to a second place finish today, as she crossed the finish line seventh overall in 27:35.9.

First six Skyhawks finish within 1.9 seconds of each other

RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 24 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked second in the East Region Poll, placed second out of five teams today at the Gates Farm Northeast-10 Conference Preview Meet, hosted by Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire.

Nine of the ten Skyhawks running today occupied spots 7-15, while the first six to finish did so within just 1.9 seconds of each other. Senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) led the way, finishing seventh on the six-kilometer course with a time of 27:35.9. This marks Venturo's second top-10 effort of the season, as she placed second overall at the season-opening Shacklette Invitational on September 6th.

Senior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester), who was Stonehill's top finisher a week ago at the New England Championships, turned in an eighth-place performance today, clocking in at 27:36.2, while classmate Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) finished ninth and earned a time of 27:36.7.

Sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) came in just four tenths of a second after Rielly, placing tenth in 27:37.1, and classmate Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) posted a time of 27:37.5, good for 11th overall.

Senior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) was the sixth Skyhawk to cross the finish line, doing so in 27:37.8 (12th place), while sophomore Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) and freshman Kiera Murray (Falmouth, Maine/Cheverus) placed 13th and 14th respectively, turning in times of 28:38.5 and 28:38.8.

Freshman Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) finished at the tail end of Stonehill's pack of nine runners, placing 15th in 28:39.2. Rounding out Stonehill's entries today was classmate Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy), who placed 34th overall out of 60 participants with a time of 31:04.6

Stonehill earned a second-place finish with a total of 45 points. Saint Michael's College won the meet with 31 points, while Assumption College tied Saint Anselm College for third place (82 points) and the College of Saint Rose finished fifth (137 points). Saint Michael's junior Chloe Boutelle took individual honors with her first place finish in 26:20.2.

Stonehill will be off for the next two weekends before returning to Rindge to attempt to capture its sixth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, November 9th.
