Skyhawks finish 31st at Paul Short Invitational on Saturday

EASTON, Mass. (October 9, 2014) – Stonehill College sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) have both earned weekly cross country honors from the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) for their efforts on Saturday at the Paul Short Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Stonehill, ranked 22nd in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked second in the East Region, finished 31st at the Paul Short Invitational, as the first six Skyhawks to cross the finish line all posted personal best times.

Borofski earns Player of the Week honors from the NE-10 for the first time in her career following her team-best 105th place finish in a personal record time of 21:46, good for the second fastest six-kilometer time in program history.

Sophomore Nicole Borofski posted the second fastest six-kilometer time in program history (21:46) at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday.

The Plymouth, Massachusetts native led the way for the Skyhawks, marking the second straight meet that she has been Stonehill's top finisher. Borofski ran to a fourth place finish and clocked in at 23:08 at the DII/DIII Challenge on September 13th in her first action of the season. Her 21:46 mark on Saturday topped the time of 23:06 that she set at the NE-10 Championship as a freshman last fall.

Borofski ran in each of Stonehill's seven meets in 2013, posting three top-10 efforts. She earned NCAA All-East Region and NE-10 All-Conference second team honors, in addition to being selected as the NE-10 Rookie of the Year. Borofski capped her freshman campaign at the NCAA DII Championships in Spokane, Washington, where she finished 220th with a time of 24:26.2.

A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track for the Eagles. She earned All-State honors in cross country all four years, and served as a team captain for both cross country and track as a junior and senior.

Knox earns Rookie of the Week recognition from the NE-10 for the second time this fall following her 186th place finish in 22:21 at the Paul Short Invitational. The freshman was the third Skyhawk to finish the race, behind only Borofski and sophomore Aisha McAdams. This marks the third time in three meets this season that Knox has been the first Skyhawk freshman to cross the finish line.

She opened her collegiate career with an 11th place effort in 19:42.9 at the five-kilometer Shacklette Invitational on September 6th, before breaking into the top-10 the following week with a ninth place performance in 23:32 at the DII/DIII Challenge.

A 2014 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, Knox competed in both cross country and track & field for the Rebels, serving as a team captain for indoor track as a junior, and cross country, indoor, and outdoor track as a senior. Knox was a member of cross country teams that earned district runner-up finishes as a junior and senior, and indoor/outdoor track teams that captured the district championship as a senior.

Stonehill will be back in action this Saturday at the New England Championships, held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
