Knox Named NE-10 Rookie Of The Week

Worcester, Mass. native registered ninth-place finish in 23:32 at DII/DIII Challenge

EASTON, Mass. (September 17, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's cross country, it was announced yesterday by the league office.

Running in just her second collegiate race, Knox turned in a ninth-place effort with a time of 23:32 at the six-kilometer Division II/Division III Challenge on Saturday in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Knox was the last of four Skyhawks to finish in the top-10, as Stonehill cruised to its second team victory in two meets this season.

Saturday also marked the second time in two weeks that Knox was the first Stonehill freshman to cross the finish line. She placed 11th and clocked in at 19:42.9 in her collegiate debut at the five-kilometer Shacklette Invitational on September 6th, finishing second to only senior Brianna Venturo among Skyhawks.

A 2014 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, Knox competed in both cross country and track & field for the Rebels, serving as a team captain for indoor track as a junior, and cross country, indoor, and outdoor track as a senior. Knox was a member of cross country teams that earned district runner-up finishes as a junior and senior, and indoor/outdoor track teams that captured the district championship as a senior.

Stonehill, ranked 22nd in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, will be off for the next two weekends before returning to action on October 4th at the Lehigh Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
