#22 Stonehill Runs Away With DII/DIII Challenge


Sophomore Nicole Borofski led Stonehill to its second team victory in two weeks with her fourth place finish in 23:08.

Skyhawks place four in top-10 and nine in top-15

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 13, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 22nd in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, placed four runners in the top-10 en route to a dominant 29-point effort at the Division II/Division III Challenge today in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

2013 Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) led the way for the Skyhawks, as she placed fourth overall in 23:08 on the six-kilometer course, just 1.3 seconds off the pace of her personal best mark of 23:06.7, set at last fall's East Region Championship.

Borofski was followed by senior captain Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester), who finished fifth out of 73 total competitors with a time of 23:12.

Joining Borofski and Anderson in the top-10 was sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) and freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy). Buonfiglio turned in a personal-best time of 23:22, good for eighth overall, while Knox came in ninth after clocking in at 23:32.

Stonehill won today's meet with a total of 29 points, which was 51 fewer than second-place West Chester University. Lock Haven University finished third with 95 points, followed by Tiffin University (107 points), host Kutztown University (110 points), Philadelphia University (139 points) and Millersville University (162 points).

Skyhawks also occupied spots 11-15, beginning with senior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy), who earned a mark of 23:35. Classmate Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) finished 12th in 23:38, followed by seniors Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) in 23:45 and Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) in 23:50, and freshman Kiera Murray (Falmouth, Maine/Cheverus) in 23:51.

Also running today for Stonehill was sophomore Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) and junior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fair Haven Regional). McAdams placed 19th overall and posted a time of 24:07, while Hellman finished 24th in 24:20.

Rounding out Stonehill's participants at the DII/DIII Challenge were freshmen Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica), Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside), and Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy). Schultz registered a 26th-place finish in 24:30, while Hersom finished 38th in 25:01 and McGlone 48th in 25:36.

Stonehill will be off for the next two weekends before returning to action on October 4th at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
