Five Skyhawks collect individual All-Academic honors
EASTON, Mass. (February 14, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team has been named a 2013 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, it was announced today. Additionally, five student-athletes earned individual All-Academic awards from the USTFCCCA.
Stonehill, which is coming off a season in which the Skyhawks won their fifth-consecutive Northeast-10 and East Region championships, compiled a cumulative team grade point average of 3.26 in 2013. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the squad must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and have earned a score (finished at least five runners) at its respective NCAA regional championship. The team was one of 136 women's programs recognized, and Stonehill was one of 89 institutions that had both its men's and women's cross country programs honored.

Individually, seniors Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) and Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), as well as junior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) and freshman Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) collected All-Academic Awards from the USTFCCCA. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and must have finished among the top-30 percent of total eligible runners at their regional championship, or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships. Stonehill's five representatives were among 337 total women honored by the USTFCCCA.
Bishop posted the fifth All-American performance in Stonehill women's cross country history last November at the NCAA Championships in Spokane, Wash., as she placed 36th overall in 21:47.3. The senior psychology major was Stonehill's top finisher in each of the six races that she competed in last season, and she earned All-Northeast-10 and All-East Region honors for the third consecutive season. Bishop was one of 24 All-American performers to also earn All-Academic honors, and she has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll a combined nine times.
Regan established herself as one of Stonehill's top runners in 2013, as she collected three top-10 finishes. The interdisciplinary studies major placed fifth at the Northeast-10 Championship and sixth at the East Region Championship, collecting first team All-Conference and All-East Region honors along the way. Regan has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll on six occasions, and to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice.
LaRegina opened her season by winning the individual title at the Shacklette Invitational, and she also registered All-East Region honors for the first time in her career after placing 14th overall in 23:13.8 at Franklin Park on November 10th. A 2012 Capital One Academic All-District I first team selection, LaRegina earned a perfect 4.0 GPA last fall and boasts a 3.84 cumulative GPA as a psychology major.
Anderson narrowly missed out on posting the first All-East Region performance of her career this past November, after finishing 27th out of 181 participants with a time of 23:44.6. The junior education major earned Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team honors as a sophomore in 2012, and missed out on accomplishing the same feat in 2013 by one spot. She has a 3.58 cumulative GPA and has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all five of her semesters at Stonehill.
McAdams' best result of 2013 came at the Northeast-10 Championship, when she placed seventh overall in 18:40, earning first team All-Conference honors. She was named NE-10 Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career for the effort, in which she was the first freshman to cross the finish line. The communications major earned a 3.44 GPA and was named to both the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll after one semester at Stonehill.
