Borofski Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Plymouth, Mass. native places 11th overall at East Region Championship

EASTON, Mass. (November 12, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman and Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) has been named the NE-10 Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the league office. Borofski earns the recognition following her 11th place finish in 23:06 at Sunday's East Region Championship, held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. and hosted by Stonehill.

Borofski's All-East Region performance was part of another dominant overall effort by #22 Stonehill, which won Sunday's event with 57 total points. The next closest squad was Bentley University with 105 points, followed by Merrimack College with 149. With the win, Stonehill captured its fifth consecutive East Region title and secured its 14th consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Although this is the first NE-10 weekly award of Borofski's collegiate career, she was named the conference Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the Northeast-10 Championship two weekends ago in Manchester, Conn. In that meet, the freshman was one of four Skyhawks to finish in the top-10, doing so in a personal best time of 18:47. Her ninth-place effort was good enough to earn her second team All-NE-10 honors.

Borofski opened up her collegiate career by placing eighth overall at the Shacklette Invitational on September 7th, and followed that up with a 41st place finish at the Division II Challenge the following weekend. Borofski returned to the top-10 on September 28th at the Codfish Bowl, as she placed tenth with a time of 19:37. In her final race before the NE-10 Championship, Borofski placed 110th in a field of 283 total participants, many of whom represented Division I programs.

A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track, earning All-State honors in cross country each of her four years at Plymouth North. She served as captain of both track and cross country teams as a junior and senior, and was a New Balance Outdoor Nationals competitor in the sprint medley as a senior.

Stonehill will return to action for one last meet this season, at the Division II National Championship in Spokane, Washington. For the second time in three years, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference will serve as host of the DII National Championship. The event will take place the weekend of November 21-23 at the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane.
