Plymouth, Mass. native becomes sixth Skyhawk to earn award
EASTON, Mass. (October 28, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year, it was announced yesterday by the league office.
Borofski's ninth place finish at yesterday's Northeast-10 Championship helped #22 Stonehill capture its fifth consecutive conference title, and 12th championship since 2000. The freshman was one of four Skyhawks to finish in the top-10 at the race, doing so in a personal best time of 18:47. Borofski's ninth-place effort also earned her Second Team All-Northeast-10 honors.
The freshman's top-10 finish yesterday came as no surprise, as she has now accomplished that feat three times this season. In her first collegiate meet, the Plymouth, Mass. native finished eighth overall at the Shacklette Invitational, clocking in at 19:32. She followed that up with a 41st place finish at the DII Challenge, before returning to the top-10 at the 33rd Annual Codfish Bowl, placing tenth with a time of 19:37.
At the New England Championships on October 12th, Borofski was the fifth Skyhawk to cross the finish line, trailing only seniors Chelsea Bishop, Elizabeth LaRegina, and Emily Regan, and junior Erin Rielly. Borofski placed 110th out of 283 total participants, many of which were representing Division I programs.
A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track, earning All-State honors in cross country each of her four years at Plymouth North. She served as captain of both track and cross country teams as a junior and senior, and was a New Balance Outdoor Nationals competitor in the sprint medley as a senior.
Stonehill returns to action on November 10th at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships, held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass., and hosted by Stonehill.
