#21 Stonehill Places 15th At New England Championships


Senior captain Chelsea Bishop was Stonehill's top finisher at the New England Championships today, placing 44th with a time of 18:36.

BOSTON, Mass. (October 12, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 21st in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region poll, earned a 15th place finish out of 43 teams competing in today's New England Championships held at Franklin Park.

Stonehill compiled 402 points, finishing ahead of Division I schools such as Providence College and Northeastern University. The University of New Hampshire won the event with 57 points, followed by the University of Connecticut, Yale University, and Boston University.

For the third time this season, senior captain Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) was the top finisher for Stonehill, completing today's race in 18:36, good for 44th place. Following Bishop were classmates Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), who finished 62nd and clocked in at 18:46, and Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional), who placed 79th with a time of 18:55.

Stonehill's next three finishers were all within eight spots of each other, starting with junior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington), who placed 107th in 19:10. Two competitors from Boston University separated Rielly from freshman Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North), who came in 110th with a 19:12 mark. Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), another freshman, followed Borofski, finishing 114th in 19:13, and then came junior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester), who finished 177th out of 283 participants with a time of 19:52.

Junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) earned a 14th place finish in the sub-varsity race, clocking in at 19:14.

Stonehill will be off next weekend before returning to action on October 27th at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.
