Bishop Earns First Career NE-10 Athlete Of The Week Award

Senior selected after third-place finish at Codfish Bowl helps Stonehill to dominant win

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2013) – Stonehill College senior captain Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) has been named the Northeast-10 Cross Country Women's Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. Bishop ran to a third-place finish at Saturday's 33rd Annual Codfish Bowl, held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., clocking in with a time of 18:45.

Bishop spearheaded a dominant performance by Stonehill, as ten of the twelve Skyhawks that competed in the race finished in the top 20. Stonehill won the event with a total of 29 points, while the second-place squad, Merrimack College, was well off Stonehill's pace with 102 points. The Skyhawks have won two of the three events that they have competed in this season, with the other victory coming at the Shacklette Invitational.

Bishop has now been the top finisher for Stonehill at two consecutive events, as she was the first Skyhawk to cross the finish line two weekends ago at the DII Challenge with a time of 23:02.4.

The senior captain has been named to the NE-10 All-Conference teams all three years she has been at Stonehill. Bishop earned a spot on the Third Team as a freshman, the Second Team as a sophomore, and the First Team last season. She was also named to the NCAA Division II All-East Region Team in her sophomore and junior seasons.

Stonehill, ranked 21st in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, will be off this weekend before returning to Franklin Park on October 12th to compete in the New England Championships.
