Stonehill Places Second at DII Challenge


Senior captain Chelsea Bishop finished 12th overall at the DII Challenge, with a time of 23:02.4.

Seniors Chelsea Bishop, Emily Regan, and Elizabeth LaRegina lead the way for Skyhawks

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 14, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 19th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, finished second in today's Division II Cross Country Challenge, held at Kutztown University.

Stonehill's top finisher was senior captain Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), who came in 12th with a time of 23:02.4 on the six kilometer course. Right behind her in 16th place was senior captain Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) with a time of 23:12.9, and in 19th senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), who won last week's Shacklette Invitational, with a 23:21.0 mark.

Freshman Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) placed 20th with a time of 23:28.2, followed by juniors Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Machester) in 25th place with a 23:34.5 mark and Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) in 28th with a 23:42.4 time.

The Skyhawks, who won last week's Shacklette Invitational, just missed taking the top spot in this event as well, as they finished with 92 points. First-place California (Pa.) finished with 80 points, beating out Stonehill by a 12-point margin. Seton Hill came in third, followed by Dickinson, Shippensburg, and Bloomsburg.

Freshman Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) was the final Skyhawk to finish in the top 30, as she took the 30th spot with a time of 23:44.8. Junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) came in 37th with a time of 23:54.4, followed by freshman Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) in 41st with a time of 23:59.4.

Other Skyhawks to compete in today's meet were senior captain Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland), who completed the course in 24:04.6, freshman Nicole Ambrosecchio (Stamford, Conn./Westhill), with a time of 24:18.3, freshman Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) with a 24:35.3 mark, sophomore Molly Hellman (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional), with a time of 24:56.3, and senior Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), who finished in 25:17.6.

Stonehill was originally scheduled to participate in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational next weekend, but will no longer be attending. The Skyhawks will return to action on September 28th at the 33rd Annual Codfish Bowl, held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
