Skyhawks selected to Division II Cross Country/Track & Field team by CoSIDA
EASTON, Mass. (June 17, 2013) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's cross country and track and field programs have earned Capital One Academic All-District I honors as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in Division II from the East Region.
Senior Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and junior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) were both selected to the Division II Academic All-District I cross country/track & field first team, marking the third-straight year Stonehill has had women's Academic All-District honorees, giving them eight selections overall in that span. It marks the second-straight year McBride has received All-District status, while LaRegina is honored for the first time.
McBride, a six-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference performer for cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field, earns her second-straight Capital One Academic All-District selection after recently graduating with a 3.60 cumulative grade point average as an American History major at Stonehill, with a minor in journalism. She earned Academic All-Conference honors for cross country three-straight years, also receiving the sport's NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award this past fall, indoor track twice and outdoor track once, with the senior honors still pending. McBride earned Stonehill's Edward E. Martin Senior Scholar-Athlete Award at its annual senior student-athlete dinner. She has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester, while also collecting the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award three times.
McBride is a 12-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region performer for the three sports she competes in, posting her second cross country honor with a fourth place finish at the East Regional this past fall in a personal best time of 21:49 on the six-kilometer course. McBride has collected All-Region honors for indoor track & field four times, with three honors for the 5000-meter run to go with a 3000-meter run achievement this past winter. The two-time Northeast-10 Conference 10,000-meter champion is a six-time All-Region performer during the outdoor track & field season, earning the honors for the 10,000-meter and 5000-meter runs three times each over her career.

McBride has earned a pair of All-New England honors over her career, including a third place finish in 38:10.31 at the New England Outdoor Track & Field, hosted by Stonehill, in May. She is an eight time All-Northeast-10 performer, with three cross country awards, including a fifth place finish at the 2012 NE-10 Championships in 18:49 over five-kilometers, three indoor track honors and a pair of outdoor honors. McBride posted a school-record time of 37:16.70 for the 10,000 during a sixth place finish at the Duke Invitational, while her season-best time of 18:04.23 for the outdoor 5000 was good for sixth at Holy Cross. She earned All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 5000-meter run (17:57.07) at the NE-10 Indoor Championships in February. She captured her second NE-10 10,000-meter championship with a time of 38:29.88 as a junior, going on to place second a week later at the New England Championships (37:31.77) for her first All-New England performance.
LaRegina, a three-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference honoree with two indoor track & field selections and an outdoor track & field pick, has earned a 3.82 cumulative grade point average as a psychology major at Stonehill. The Lambda Epsilon Sigma and Psi Chi National Honor Society member received the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal for having the highest cumulative GPA on the track & field team. She has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester and is a two-time Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award winner.

LaRegina earned USTFCCCA All-East Region honors for the first time in her career during the indoor season as part of Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team that finished second at the NE-10 Indoor Championships in 13:02.51 to earn All-Conference honors. She is a four time All-Northeast-10 performer overall, adding three awards with Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team. The team placed second at the NE-10 Outdoor Championships this spring (9:14.14) and she was also part of the Skyhawks All-New England team at the New England Indoor Championships with a fifth place showing in a school-record 9:16.59. LaRegina was a member of Stonehill's NE-10 Champion 4x800 team at the 2012 NE-10 Outdoor (9:24.99) and Indoor Championships (9:29.08).
LaRegina ran her first season with the Stonehill cross country team in 2012, posting a season-best ninth place finish in her debut at the Shaklette Invitational with a time of 20:11.8 (5K). She also finished 26th at the NE-10 Championships in 19:41.0 (5K) to help the Skyhawks to the team championship.
The Stonehill women's cross country and track and field programs continued their run of excellence during the 2012-13 academic year. Cross country captured its fourth straight Northeast-10 and NCAA Division II East Regional championships last fall, marking the program's 11th NE-10 title and 13th-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Championships overall. Stonehill placed third at the NE-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships in February and were fifth at the Outdoor Championships in May.
With 20 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. The Skyhawks have finished in the top three in the final NE-10 Presidents' Cup standings nine straight years, winning the Cup four times, including a streak of three-straight from 2009-10 through 2011-12. This prestigious award is given to the top performing athletic school in the Northeast-10, across all sports and seasons. Stonehill has received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first two years if the program's existence of honoring programs with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. The Skyhawks have earned a 97% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for fifth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with nine Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
