McBride leads Skyhawks with 98th place finish in career-best time

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (September 28, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 18th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II national poll and first in the East Regional poll, placed 28th overall out of 40 programs in the Gold Race of the 39th Annual Brooks-Paul Short Run on Friday morning on Goodman Campus.
Cornell University took first place honors with 55 points, the College of William & Mary finished second (102) and Georgetown University placed third (106). Stonehill scored 769 points to rank ahead of several NCAA Division I programs including the University of Massachusetts (891) and the College of Holy Cross (980), among others.
Senior captain Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) led the Skyhawks with a career-best time of 22 minutes and seven seconds (98th place) on the 6-kilometer layout. McBride surpassed her previous 6-kilometer time of 23:22 which was set at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships on November 21, 2010.
Stonehill's next four runners also posted personal best times on the 6-kilometer course as Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) ran a time of 22:14 to rank 110th overall, Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) crossed the finish line in 22:54 (176th overall), Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) placed 185th overall (23:00) and Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) finished 200th overall in a time of 23 minutes and 11 seconds.
Senior Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) rounded out Stonehill's efforts in the Gold Race of the Brooks-Paul Short Run with a time of 23:38 for 227th place overall.
The Skyhawks return to action on Sunday, October 7 at the New England Championships in Westfield, Massachusetts at Stanley Park.
