Boen Named USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women’s Coach Of The Year

Boen guides Stonehill to its 12th-straight NCAA Division II Championships

Karen Boen wins her second USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women's Coach of the Year Award in last three seasons.

EASTON, Mass. (November 9, 2011) – Stonehill College men's and women's cross country head coach Karen Boen has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Region Women's Coach of the Year by her peers for the ninth time in her career, it was announced yesterday.

Boen guided the Skyhawks women's team to their third-straight NCAA Division II East Region title this past Sunday and in the process earned their 12th-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Championships on Saturday, November 19 at the Plantes Ferry Regional Park in Spokane, Washington at a time to be determined later.

Stonehill stamped its ticket to the NCAA Division II Championships scoring 57 points to claim top honors while Bentley University placed second with 99 points and Philadelphia University finished third with 112 points. The top two teams advance to the NCAA Division II Championships.

"It never gets ordinary to advance to the NCAA's," said Boen. "It's nice to say that it's the 12th year in a row but every year it's a different group of people so every year feels like the first time. It never gets ordinary for me and the rest of the coaching staff."

Earlier this season, Boen was also named the NE-10 Men's and Women's Coach of the Year for piloting both squads to its fourth NE-10 Championship sweep in program history. The Skyhawks placed a program record 15 athletes on their respective NE-10 All-Conference teams with the sweep of the conference championships.

Boen, who has now earned the USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women's Coach of the Year award nine times, was most recently honored in 2009 by the region's coaches.

Stonehill, ranked 14th overall in the latest USTFCCCA Division II national poll and first in the East Regional poll, will be accompanied by the men's squad on Saturday, November 19 after the men's harriers finished second overall at the NCAA Division II East Regionals last weekend.
