#25 Stonehill Places 18th at NCAA Championships


Junior Jill Alves finished 77th out of 187 overall to lead the Skyhawks to an 18th place finish.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 4, 2010) – Stonehill College turned in an 18th place finish today at the NCAA Division II women's cross country championships held at E.P. "Tom " Sawyer State Park as part of the 2010 NCAA Fall Championships Festival this afternoon.

Grand Valley State University took the team title with 66 points to top second-place Western State University (95 points) and seven-time defending national champions Adams State University (98). Shippensburg University junior Neely Spence captured the individual championship as she completed the six-kilometer course in 20:41.2 to lead the Raiders to fourth as a team. Stonehill compiled 510 points for its 18th place finish out of 24 teams competing today.

runners. Freshman Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) was strong in her first championship race with a time of 23:45.0 to place 113th overall and 97th among scoring runners. Junior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) finished 129th in 23:57.0, while sophomore Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) was 134th in 24:09.1.

Stonehill, ranked first in the East Regional rankings all year long, was making its 12th-straight appearance in the NCAA Championships after winning the NCAA East Regional at Franklin Park for the second straight year while also capturing its second-straight Northeast-10 Conference title this fall.
