Hanson, Mass., native earns first weekly conference award after strong run at New England Championships

EASTON, Mass. (October 13, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for women's cross country following her strong performance at Saturday's New England Championships.

Regan collects the first weekly award of her career after helping Stonehill to a 24th place finish at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester – first among Division II entries. She placed 126th overall (out of 322 runners) with her time of 19:32 over the five-kilometer course – good for sixth among Division II runners and the first DII freshman to cross the finish line.

Regan has run in all four meets for Stonehill in her first collegiate season with Saturday's time at the New England's marking her season-best at five-kilometers. She placed fourth in her collegiate debut at the Trinity Bantams Invitational in early September with a time of 16:39 over four-kilometers. Regan was 22nd at the Quinnipiac Invitational the next week with a time of 19:44 over 5K, before placing 82nd (out of 387) with a 6K time of 23:28 in the "Brown Race" of the Brooks-Lehigh-Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University, leading up to Saturday's NE Championships.

Stonehill, ranked 21st in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II national poll and first in the East Region, has this weekend off before participating in the Kutztown Division II Challenge, hosted by Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, Saturday, October 23, at 10 a.m.
