Joynt and Mahoney lead the way as Skyhawks place three in top five, six in top ten and 12 in top 20 of season-opening meet

MANCHESTER, Conn. (September 11, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked 16^th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll and first in the East Region, opened its 2010 season with a dominating first place finish at the Trinity College Bantam Invitational in women's cross country action at Wickham Park this morning.

Stonehill stormed to the win with 23 points by placing three runners in the top four, six in the top ten and 12 in the top 20 on the day. Host Trinity College was second with 64 points, while the University of Hartford rounded out the top three with 85 points.

All five of Stonehill's scoring runners placed in the top ten and within a span of 27-seconds, led by the second place finish of sophomore Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) who finished second overall by completing the 4-kilometer course in 16:31. American International College sophomore Jeptui Cherutich (Eldama Revine, Kenya) won the individual title with a time of 16:21.

Junior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) finished right on Joynt's heels in third place with a time of 16:33, while freshman Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) turned in a fourth place finish in her collegiate debut with a time of 16:39. Sophomore Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) finished sixth overall in 16:49 and classmate Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) rounded out the Skyhawks scoring runners in eighth place with a time of 16:58. Stonehill's top 12 finishers all completed the race within 1:01 of Joynt's time.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday when it participates in the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn., starting at 11 a.m.
