Women's Cross Country Solid Once Again With Seventh Place Team Finish At UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.-- Both Stonehill cross country teams posted solid team performances for the second straight week at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Skyhawk men (ranked 10th nationally in Division II) placed third among 29 teams while the Stonehill women finished seventh of 33 squads, including defending Northeast-10 Conference champion UMass Lowell, who the Skyhawks bested by three points for seventh place.

Senior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) and juniors Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.), All-America David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) finished in a pack with a times of 26:31, 26:32 and 26:33 that were good for 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th places, respectively, while freshman Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.) closed out the scoring for the Skyhawks with a time of 27:00 flat over the five mile layout. Stonehill's nearest Division II competition, Bryant, finished 12th in the event, as Trinity took top team honors overall.

On the women's side, senior Jill Allen (Peabody, Mass.) led the way with a 31st place finish, posting a time of 19:31 over the 3.1 mile layout. Junior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) was next in 39th place with a time of 19:46, while freshman Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn.) was 46th with a time of 19:51. Sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) finished 50th individually with a time of 19:58, while seniors Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) each posted a time of 20:04 that was good for 51st place. Stonehill edged out UMass Lowell by one spot in the team standings, while Bryant finished 15th overall as Amherst took top team honors.

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday morning at the Harrier Classic at Franklin Park in Boston, as the women's race begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men's race at 11:30 a.m.
