DeIngenis, Brague, Gardynski, Barrett And Sousa Named To 2006 Northeast-10 Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Squad For Efforts In Classroom

November 15, 2006

Eight members of both the Stonehill College men's and women's cross country teams have earned spots on the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference squads in a vote taken of the league's 15 sports information directors.

Five members of the 2006 Northeast-10 and NCAA Northeast Regional champion Skyhawk women's team were recognized for their excellence in the classroom, led by senior co-captain Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's Academy-Bay View), who earned first team Academic All-Conference accolades in posting a 3.66 cumulative grade point average as a Psychology major at the College. DeIngenis, who became the first outdoor track All-America performer in school history last spring, is a three-time all-conference and all-regional selection who helped lead Head Coach Karen Boen's squad to their sixth conference and NCAA regional titles in the last seven seasons this fall.

Sophomores Katie Brague (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass./Everett) earned spots on the Academic All-Conference second team, as Brague has amassed a 3.94 GPA while Gardynski has posted a 3.37 GPA as a Communications major. Junior Meghan Barrett (Norfolk, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and sophomore Alicia Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) rounded out Stonehill's honorees on this year's Academic All-Conference squad by earning third team accolades, as Barrett has posted a 3.53 grade point average as an English major while Sousa has notched a 3.62 GPA as a double major in both English and Secondary Education.

Three individuals were recognized on the men's side as well for Stonehill, as junior captain Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), who earned all-New England, all-Northeast-10 and all-NCAA Northeast Regional honors this fall, was tabbed to the first team Academic All-Conference squad, having posted a 3.79 cumulative grade point average as a History major. Junior Kyle Sousa (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) and sophomore Matt Meagher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) were named to the third team Academic All-Conference team for their efforts, as Sousa has posted a 3.60 GPA and Meagher has added a 3.53 grade point average during their respective matriculations as Biology majors at the College.

Stonehill has placed 26 student-athletes on seven Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference fall squads, a total that matches the entire number of Skyhawk student-athletes that earned Academic All-Conference honors during the entire 2005-2006 academic year. Both Skyhawk cross country teams will compete for their respective NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday morning as part of the Division II Fall Sports Festival in Pensacola, Fla. beginning at 10:00 a.m. EST (9:00 a.m. CST)
