BOSTON, Mass.-- 24th-ranked Stonehill captured its sixth NCAA Division II Northeast Women's Cross Country Regional Championship in the last seven years on Sunday afternoon by placing all five scorers in the top 15 in the 2006 regional championship race held at Franklin Park. The Skyhawks posted a team score of 47 points to regain the title from runner-up UMass Lowell, who posted a team score of 55 points, as both squads will advance to the 2006 NCAA Division II National Championships to be held on Saturday, November 18th as part of the Division II Fall Sports Festival that will take place in Pensacola, Fla.

Seniors Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) led the way for Stonehill by placing third and fourth, respectively, posting times of 22:42 and 22:44 over the 6K layout. Senior Jill Allen (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Jackie Oates (South Easton, Mass.) were next for the Skyhawks with times of 23:30 and 23:37, respectively, that were good for 12th and 13th place, and junior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) claimed the key 15th individual spot with a time of 23:38, as all five Stonehill runners earned all-regional accolades for their performances. Clunie's finish was key for the Skyhawks' team score, as UMass Lowell had the next two runners across the line in 16th and 17th places, respectively.

Stonehill Head Coach Karen Boen was named by her peers as the 2006 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Coach of the Year for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, as the Skyhawks claimed both the Northeast-10 and NCAA Regional crowns in the same season for the sixth time since 2000.

"I really can't say enough about what this team has done this year," Boen said after the championship race. "They worked so very hard in the off-season, and all of that training has paid of in two championships and a trip to nationals once again. They deserve all the credit in the world, as everyone stepped up at the right time."

The 2006 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country National Championship will take place on Saturday, November 18th at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla. beginning at 10:15 a.m.
