SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- Stonehill College saw its five-year run as Northeast-10 Conference womens cross country champions end in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday morning, as the Skyhawks finished as the runner-up in the 2005 league championship race to UMass Lowell by a single point (33-34) in competition hosted by Bryant University.

Senior Kaitlin Buckley (North Kingstown, R.I.) led four individuals in the top 10 for Stonehill by placing third with a time of 19:42 over the 5K layout, as she was followed in fourth place by fellow senior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.), who posted a time of 19:48. Junior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) joined Buckley and Smith in earning first team all-Northeast-10 honors, as she finished sixth individually with a time of 20:06.

Junior Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) was the final member of the Skyhawk quartet to record a top-10 finish, as she placed ninth individually with a time of 20:27. Fellow junior Lauren Eynatian (Chelmsford, Mass.) was next in 13th place for Stonehill with a time of 20:40 to join Chaisson in earning second team all-conference accolades, while sophomore Meghan Barrett (Norfolk, Mass.) and senior Kristen Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) earned third team all-Northeast-10 honors by placing 15th and 21st, respectively, with times of 20:44 and 21:02.

UMass Lowell junior Nicole Plante captured the race with a time of 19:10, followed by Assumptions Caitlyn Clark in second with a time of 19:38. Bentley finished third in the team standings with 81 points, followed by Assumption in fourth (139 points) and LeMoyne in fifth (155 points).

Stonehill will seek its sixth straight NCAA regional crown and trip to the NCAA Division II national championships on Sunday, November 6th when the Skyhawks compete at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championships at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 1:30 p.m.
