Peragine and Feeman tally three blocks each for a match high

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut (November 9, 2019) – The Stonehill College volleyball team fell in three sets to the University of New Haven Saturday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium with set scores of 13-25, 20-25, and 15-25 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

By The Numbers:

  • Stonehill (15-9, 8-4 NE10) saw junior Sophia Poveda lead the team with eight kills, while, senior Rachel Dunlavy chipped in 10 digs.
  • Sophomore Clare Feeman and freshman Basia Peragine each registered a match-high three blocks.
  • New Haven (15-8, 8-3 NE10) saw Kali Greathead with a match-high 11 kills, as Sammie Paguia tallied a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs. Camille Garden saw a match-high three blocks, as Julia Guarniere and Ruby Fera tallied 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

How it Happened:

  • In the first frame, Stonehill saw a one-point lead, 4-3, before New Haven ran with an 18-4 rally for a 13-point advantage, 21-8. The Chargers then closed the set with a score of 25-13 to take the first frame.
  • Stonehill battled in the second frame with seven tied scores, 10-10, and New Haven took over the lead. The Skyhawks stayed within two for most of the frame, but the Chargers ended up on top, 25-20.
  • The Chargers saw their highest hitting percentage in the third set, .290, and they saw the lead throughout the frame. Stonehill was only able to come within one three times, and New Haven saw its largest lead of 11, 23-12, late in the set.

Outside the Lines:

  • Currently, this puts Stonehill fifth in the NE10, as the Skyhawks have one match remaining and other teams have two.

Up Next:

Stonehill wraps up the regular season next weekend on Saturday, November 16 as they host Southern Connecticut State University for a match at 1:00 p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium. Prior to the match, Stonehill will recognize their lone senior, Rachel Dunlavy.
