Volleyball Cruises Past Pace, 3-0

Skyhawks win fifth-straight match

EASTON, Massachusetts (November 1, 2019) – The Stonehill College volleyball team extended its win streak to five games with a 3-0 victory over Pace University at Merkert Gymnasium with set scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-11 in Northeast-10 Conference play.  

By The Numbers:

  • Stonehill (14-7, 7-2 NE10) saw junior Sophia Poveda with a match high 15 kills and six digs, while sophomore Clare Feeman chipped in 10 kills and five digs. Feeman averaged a .769 hitting percentage and Poveda saw .484, as they both saw no errors.
  • Four Skyhawks tallied two blocks, as Rachel Dunlavy saw a team high 13 digs.
  • Pace's (3-19, 2-7 NE10) Sandra Yang notched a team high six kills, while three Setters registered five kills: Tatjana Calimpong-Burke, Mackenzie Byrne, and Brielle Jones.
  • Danielle Vaiano tallied a match high 16 digs, while Calimpong-Burke recorded a match high five blocks.

How it Happened:

  • Stonehill led with its highest hitting percentage of the match as it averaged a .441 hitting clip. The Setters saw a three-point advantage, 8-5, but Stonehill rallied for a six-point lead, 22-16. Pace responded by cutting the deficit to three, 23-20, before Stonehill took the first game, 25-20.
  • The Skyhawks' three-point lead, 6-3, wasn't enough before Pace scored five-straight points for a two-point lead, 8-6. Stonehill then only gave up one more lead change before running with a 16-4 rally taking set two, 25-14.

    Stonehill rolled through the third set maintaining the lead and winning the match with their largest lead of the match, 25-11.

Outside the Lines:

  • Stonehill has now won five-straight NE10 matches for its longest win streak this season.

Stonehill hosts Adelphi University tomorrow, Saturday, November 2 for a 3:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference match at Merkert Gymnasium. During tomorrow's game, Stonehill will be collecting money for Bloom – A Place for Girls, which is a 3-5 month faith-based residential program for girls, ages 12-17 that are struggling with a wide variety of issues including addiction, depression, and sexual abuse issues. Through faith-based counseling, curriculum and 24/7 care, young girls can once again find hope for their life.
