Volleyball Powers Past Merrimack, 3-0

Skyhawks dominate with its highest hitting percentage of the season, .432

EASTON, Massachusetts (September 15, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team got past Northeast-10 Conference foe Merrimack College for the second time this season in three-straight sets, 3-0. The Skyhawks claimed victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-12.

For the Skyhawks (5-5, 1-1 NE10), sophomore Sophia Poveda chipped in a match-high 13 kills, while senior Allyson Hughes dished out 12 kills. Freshman setter Lauren Wilke registered her fourth double-double of the season contributing 38 assists and 12 digs, while junior libero Rachel Dunlavy tallied 15 digs in the victory. Freshman Abby Remick also recorded nine kills, two aces and five digs with her .412 hitting percentage.


Poveda tallied a match- and career-high  13 kills

Merrimack scored the first point of the match, but Stonehill was able to run with the first set, as the Skyhawks saw its biggest advantage of 10 points twice in the frame, 23-13 and set point, 25-15.

In the second set, Stonehill's Remick served 12-straight points, including notching back-to-back aces, 14-2. Merrimack closed the gap to 10, four times, but the Skyhawks wrapped up the frame with four-straight points to take the second set, 25-11.

The Skyhawks continued attacking as they saw their highest hitting percentage of the match in the third frame, .571, compared to the Warriors' .000 hitting clip. Merrimack saw its largest advantage of one, 4-3, as Stonehill continued pounding the ball to total 19 kills in the frame, as the Skyhawks rallied with a 12-1 run earning match point, 25-12.

Stonehill travels to Manchester, New Hampshire to face Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, September 22 with a match at 4:00 p.m.
