Skyhawks recognized its five seniors before the game

EASTON, Mass. (November 11, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team fought back, but was unable to get past Northeast-10 Conference foe Pace University, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in Merkert Gymnasium with set scores of 18-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, and 15-13.
Prior to the match, the Skyhawks honored the team's five seniors: Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minnesota/Belle Plaine), Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Illinois/Benet Academy), Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard), Colleen Kenney (Barnstable, Massachusetts/Barnstable), and Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown West).
Stonehill (11-14, 8-6 NE10) saw junior Allyson Hughes (Modesto, California/Big Valley Christian) notch a match-high 19 kills and four blocks, while Delanty and Hitchcock followed with 18 and 11 kills, respectively. Hitchcock also tallied her ninth double-double of her career with 19 digs and chipping in two blocks, as DeLanty recorded four blocks. Freshman setter Jessica Givens (Albuquerque, New Mexico/St. Pius X) added in 47 assists and 12 digs, as Manuszak registered 29 digs.
For Pace (16-16, 8-6 NE10) Colette Clarke registered 12 kills, Sydney Lecker chipped in 13 kills and 20 digs, while Claudia Fontanet recorded 11 kills and 18 digs. Tatjana Calimpong-Burke and Clarke notched four blocks each.
The Setters saw the highest hitting percentage of the match in the first game with its . 263 hitting clip, while they were able to hold the Skyhawks to a .089 percentage. Pace held an eight-point lead, its' biggest of the set, 18-10, as Stonehill tried to fight back but were only able to come within six, 18-13. Pace went on a 7-5 run to take the first frame, 25-18.
The second game was very similar, as Pace took an early six-point lead, 11-5, but Stonehill knotted up the with a 7-1 run, 12-12. The Skyhawks battled again tying the frame two more times, 19-19, before the Setters scored six more points taking the second frame, 25-21.

The Skyhawks saw its highest hitting percentage, .250, and its first lead of the match, as the Setters were held to a .025 hitting clip. As the score toggled back and forth in the beginning, Stonehill tied up the game, 9-9, and took on a four-point lead, 14-10, but Pace responded with four-straight points of its own, 14-14. After a kill by DeLanty, the Skyhawks went on an 11-3 run taking set point, 25-17.
Stonehill fought back from a six-point deficit in the third frame, 5-11, to take its first lead of the set, 12-11. The Setters scored one point to tie the frame, 12-12, but Stonehill took control of the game with a four point lead, 21-17. Pace cut the deficit to one, 23-24, but DeLanty closed the third game with her 17th kill of the frame, 25-23.
In the Skyhawks fourth fifth-set game of the season, the Setters took an early 4-1 lead, but the Skyhawks battled back to tie the deciding set at five, 5-5. Pace tallied four-straight points to regain the lead, 9-5, before the Skyhawks closed in on the Setters with an 8-5 run, 13-14. Pace finished the match with a kill from Lecker for a 15-13 win.
Stonehill wrapped up the regular season with an 11-14 overall record and an 8-6 NE10 mark. The Skyhawks finished fifth in the conference and will face fourth-seeded Adelphi University on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Center for Recreation and Sports in Garden City, New York for the first round of the NE10 Tournament.
