Skyhawk pair collect NE10 Co-Player and Setter/Rookie of the Week honors

NE10 Volleyball Report: Week 9

EASTON, Mass. (October 31, 2017) – Stonehill College senior Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown West) and freshman Jessica Givens (Albuquerque, New Mexico/St. Pius) were both recognized for their efforts last week with weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference, the league announced on Tuesday.

Both assisted the Skyhawks to a 2-1 week with victories over Assumption College, 3-0, Southern Connecticut State University, 3-0, and a competitive loss against LIU Post, 2-3.

DeLanty notched an impressive 4.09 kills per set this week, recording back-to-back double-doubles against the Owls and the Pioneers. She tallied 18 kills against the Greyhounds, while totaling 12 against Southern Conn. and 15 versus LIU Post. She also averaged a .362 hitting percentage this week. Up front, she averaged 1.09 blocks per set and from behind the line she averaged 0.64 aces per set. The senior middle blocker was also challenged in the back line as she posted 3.82 digs per set.

DeLanty is currently ranked ninth in the conference in kills per set, fifth in hitting percentage, and fourth in blocks per set.

The senior has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for multiple semesters. She has also been tabbed as the NE10 Player of the Week once last year, while also being named to the Skyhawk Invitational All-Tournament team. She was a 2014 graduate of Smithtown High School West and was a four-year letter winner in volleyball earning Scholar-Athlete recognition all four years. DeLanty served as team captain as a junior and senior and was named to the All-League, All-County, and All-Tournament teams. She received Smithtown Booster Club MVP accolades as a junior and senior and was honored with a Gold Cord Award for academic achievement.

Givens helped the team to win its last five matches out of seven, as she averaged 12.00 assists per game last week. She also helped out in front of the net notching 0.55 blocks per set. Serving, the freshman logged 0.27 aces per set, while also adding 2.00 digs per set to the 2-1 week.

Currently Givens is ranked second in the conference in assists averaging 10.03 per set, while she has totaled 722 so far this season.

The freshman is a 2017 graduate of St. Pius X and played four years of volleyball. She was named JV captain her sophomore and junior years and tabbed on the All-Metro All-Academic team senior year. She also played club volleyball for Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball.

Stonehill competes in its final two away regular season contests this weekend, as it battles the College of Saint Rose and Le Moyne College on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4, respectively. The Skyhawks face the Golden Knights at 6:00 p.m., while they contend the Dolphins at 11:00 a.m.
