Women’s Volleyball Blanks Saint Michael’s, 3-0

DeLanty registers match-high 12 kills

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 7, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team topped Saint Michael's College in three-straight sets, 3-0, with game scores of 25-22, 25-9, 25-16 Saturday afternoon at Ross Sports Center.

Stonehill's (5-10, 2-3 NE10) offense was led by junior Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) who recorded a match-high 12 kills, while junior Allyson Hughes (Modesto, Calif./Big Valley Christian) chipped in 11 kills. Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) registered 11 digs, while Jessica Givens (Albuquerque, New Mexico/St. Pius X) notches two service aces and 36 assists.

Saint Michael's (1-8, 1-3 NE10) saw four student-athletes with four kills, including Megan Priester, Gabby Ratte, Jordan Dean, and McKenzie McNamara. Tanner Barton chipped in five service aces, while Julia Colasanti recorded 10 digs.

The first set toggled back-and-forth, as there were six lead changes and 12 ties. Stonehill tied the game at 19, and ran with a 6-3 rally to win the first set, 25-22.

The Skyhawks held the lead throughout the second set, as Stonehill out matched the Purple Knights with their .406 hitting percentage compared to Saint Michael's -.057 hitting clip. Freshman Sophia Poveda (Miami, Florida/Westminster Christian School) served for seven-straight points of the 25 tallies.

Stonehill also dominated the final game, as Saint Michael's was only able to come within two, 4-2, in start of the set. The Skyhawks opened up the frame with a 11-point lead, 18-7, and the Purple Knights scored five-straight points for a six-point deficit, 18-12. But, Stonehill took match point with a 7-4 run, winning 25-16.

Stonehill continues battling in the Northeast-10 Conference with a game at Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.
