EASTON, Mass. (October 29, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team came back after dropping the third set to top the College of Saint Rose, 3-1 Saturday afternoon at the Merkert Gymnasium. The Skyhawks' victory came by set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 14-25, and 25-21.
Stonehill's (10-12, 5-6 NE-10) junior Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) recorded a match-high 16 kills, while classmate Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine) tallied 11 kills in the afternoon. For the second-straight match, four Skyhawks registered double-digit digs, including Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) with 15, Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Ill./Benet Academy) with 14, and Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Pontaganset) and Rachel Dunlavy (Bridgton, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) with 10 apiece. Stevens also notched her 10th double-double this season adding 38 assists in the victory.
Saint Rose's (9-13, 4-6 NE-10) Jennifer Gundrum notched nine kills, while three Golden Knights recorded double-digit digs. Samantha Atchinson tallied 18, as Maryellen Devic and Rachel Salasky registered 11 and 10, respectively.
Saint Rose opened up the first frame with a two-point advantage, 7-5, which was short lived, as Stonehill knotted the set at seven taking control of the set. With its largest lead of seven, 19-12, the Golden Knights went on a 7-2 run, closing the gap to two, 19-21, but Stonehill dug deep to tally four-straight points, earning set point, 25-19.
Saint Rose once again took a two-point lead in the second frame, 6-4, but Stonehill took the lead with five-straight points, 9-6, and continued putting pressure on the Golden Knights for the rest of the set. Saint Rose came within one, 15-16, but Stonehill drove the frame home with a 9-2 run, taking set point, 25-17.
The third set saw a .391 hitting clip for the Golden Knights overpowering the Skyhawks' .188 hitting percentage. Saint Rose saw its biggest lead of 11, 24-13, at the end of the match when the Golden Knights captured its first set of the game, 25-14.
Stonehill's .302 hitting percentage in the fourth frame was the highest of the afternoon. Eight ties and three lead changes saw the Skyhawks outlast Saint Rose's .231 clip, giving the Skyhawks match point 25-21.

Stonehill plays on the road for two-straight matches, including the first at Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m.
