Women’s Volleyball Falls to Pace, 3-0

Three Skyhawks tally double-digit digs

Junior Hughes tallied a team-high 9 kills on the night

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (October 21, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fell to Pace University, 3-0 by set scores of 25-8, 29-27, and 25-20 in Friday night's match at the Goldstein Fitness Center.  

Stonehill (8-10, 3-4 NE-10) junior Allyson Hughes (Modesto, Calif./Big Valley Christian) recorded a team-high 9 kills, while teammate Abby Harte (Dover, N.H./Dover) tallied 21 assists. Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) and Rachel Dunlavy (Brighton, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) each posted 12 digs apiece, while Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Maine, Belle Plaine) followed with 11 digs.

Pace (16-6, 3-4 NE-10) saw two players in double-digit kills including Sydney Lecker with 13 and Claudia Fonanet with 14 kills and 11 digs. Three other Setters recorded double-digit digs including Amy Vicic (13), Samantha Nidini (10), and Samantha Marquez (13).

Pace's .240 hitting percentage outlasted Stonehill in the first set, putting the Setters up 1-0 with a 25-8 set win.

In the second frame, the Skyhawks saw its first lead of the match with a one-point advantage, 9-8, but the Setters would tally two-straight points to knot the game, 9-9, and then take the lead, 17-14. Stonehill knotted the set five more times, 25-25, and changed the lead in their favor four more times, 27-26. Pace connected on the final three points to close the second frame, 29-27.

Stonehill came out running with a 11-5 advantage in the third set, but was unable to keep the lead, as Pace went on a 11-3 run to take the lead, 16-14. The Skyhawks were able to capitalize after a timeout to knot the set, 19-19, but the Setters closed the frame with a 6-1 run taking match point, 25-20.

Stonehill continues Northeast-10 Conference play as it travels to Adelphi University for a Saturday afternoon match with a start time at 1 p.m.
