Women’s Volleyball Tallies Sixth 3-0 Victory Against Franklin Pierce

Nasby tallies ninth match with double-digit kills this season

RINGE, N.H. (October 15, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fought past Franklin Pierce University and came out on top, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in the Fieldhouse. The Skyhawks won with set scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 26-24.
 
Stonehill (8-9, 3-3 NE-10) was led Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine) and Katherine Delanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) as they tallied 16 and 11 kills, respectively in the victory. Senior Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) notched 43 assists, while Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Ill./Benet Academy) and Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) recorded 20 and 12 digs, respectively.

Franklin Pierce (5-11, 1-3 NE-10) saw Abigail Sonuga register 11 kills, as Katie Leidhold recorded 13 digs.

The Skyhawks opened up the first frame with a 6-3 run, but the Ravens knotted it up, 6-6, and then five more times, 14-14. Franklin Pierce took on a two-point lead, 17-15, but Stonehill rallied on an 10-5 run, taking the first set, 25-22.

Stonehill saw its highest hitting percentage of the match, .279, as the Franklin Pierce also saw its highest with a .273 clip. The Skyhawks were able to come up on top 25-22, taking the second set from the Ravens.

The Ravens opened up the third frame a three-point lead, 7-4, but the Skyhawks went on a 9-3 run, to regain the lead, 13-9. Franklin Pierce fought back with a 9-1 run taking back the lead, 18-17. Stonehill bounced back with a 9-6, sliding past Franklin Pierce, 26-24.

Stonehill continues on the road as it travels to Pace University on Friday, October 21 for a 7 p.m. contest.
