Manuszak Reaches 1000-Dig Milestone in Volleyball’s 3-2 Loss to Queens (N.Y.)

Manuszak tallies match-high 22 digs

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (October 8, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fell to Queens (N.Y.) College, 3-2, in a non-conference battle Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks fell to the Knights from set scores of 25-21, 15-25, 25-19, 21-25, 16-14.  

Stonehill's (7-8) junior Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) entered today's match with 989 digs through the first 69 matches of her career and is now the ninth Skyhawk to reach the 1,000 career-dig club. In this game, she recorded a match-high 22 digs. Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Pontaganset) tallied her 18th-career double-double tallying 12 digs and 42 assists. Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine) and Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) registered double-digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively.

Queens' (4-13) Nicoletta DiCocco and Cassidy Stewart led the Knights with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Kristen Moore registered a double-double with 42 assists and 11 digs as Ragina Anthony notched 20 digs in the victory.

In the first set, both teams battled to take an advantage until Queens went on a 12-5 run opening up the frame, 17-10. Stonehill fought back as it closed the gap to two with a kill from Allyson Hughes (Modesto, Calif./Big Valley Christian), 23-21. The Knights responded with two-straight points to give them the first set, 25-21.

Stonehill's .394 hitting percentage was the highest of the night, which outlasted Queens' .167 clip in the second frame, putting the Skyhawks up 11 with a 26-15 set win.

The Knights came out running with an 11-3 advantage in the third set, but the Skyhawks came within one, 13-12, as the Knights rallied on a 13-6 run to close the frame, 26-18.

Queens took an early 8-2 lead in the fourth set, but Stonehill was able to tie the game three times in the frame, 13-13. The Skyhawks took the lead after three-straight points from the Knights, 16-13, driving the frame with a 12-5 run to secure the set, 25-21.

Stonehill held the lead in the fifth set, 12-9, until the Knights' took over the frame with an 8-2 run, taking match point 16-14.

Stonehill hosts Merrimack College as it returns to Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday, October 11 with a start time of 7 p.m.
