Women’s Volleyball Swept by LIU Post, 3-0

DeLanty records match-high 10 kills

FLUSHING, N.Y. (October 7, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fell to LIU Post in three sets Friday night at the Fitzgerald Gymnasium on the campus of Queens (N.Y.) College by set scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20.

Stonehill (7-7) junior Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) was the only Skyhawk in double-digit kills recording a match-high 10 kills. Senior setter Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) recorded her 17th-career double-double notching 29 assists and 15 digs.

LIU Post's (6-10) Rachel Londot and Danielle Valenza both posted 10 double-digit kills apiece, while Giulia Genna tallied a double-double with 10 digs and 26 assists. 

Both Stonehill and LIU Post saw their highest hitting percentages of the match in the first set, .257 and .361, respectively. The Pioneers maintained the lead for the rest of the frame after the Skyhawks held a 3-1 advantage early in the set. LIU Post wrapped up the frame with a 6-3 run after Stonehill knotted the set at 19, 25-21.

Once again, the Skyhawks came out with the lead, 4-3, but the Pioneers with a bounced back with a 6-4 run taking back a one-point advantage. Stonehill knotted up the frame at nine, holding onto the lead until the Pioneers tied the set up at 22. LIU Post scored three more points, closing out the frame, 25-22.

Stonehill took control of the third frame with a three-point lead, 15-12, before LIU Post shut down the Skyhawks with a 13-5 run, giving the Pioneers match point, 25-20.

Stonehill travels to Brookville, N.Y. to face Queens (N.Y.) College in the Pioneers' gym for a 2 p.m. match.
