MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 29, 2015) – The Stonehill College volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set for the second straight match, but was unable to complete the comeback tonight in a 3-2 (18-25, 25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 15-10) setback at Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

Senior outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) led the Stonehill attack with ten kills to go with six digs and two blocks (one solo).

Appearing in just her second collegiate match, freshman middle blocker Rubysummer Lord-Moreland (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Hopkins) hit .263 with nine kills and two block assists, while senior Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/North Attleboro) and sophomore Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Illinois/Benet Academy) finished with eight kills each.

Junior setter Taylor Stevens (Foster, Rhode Island/Ponaganset) dished out a season-high 44 assists, her second consecutive 40+ assist performance and fourth in her last five matches.

Defensively, sophomore libero Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) paced Stonehill with a match-best 21 digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Marisa Coronis (Hudson, New Hampshire/Alvirne) led Southern New Hampshire with an impressive performance, hitting .545 with a match-high 20 kills and just two errors in 33 total attempts.

Senior setter Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas/Wylie) registered a double-double with 42 assists and ten digs, while sophomore outside hitter Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas/Richardson) chipped in with 14 kills.

Stonehill jumped out to a 1-0 lead this evening, hitting .522 in the opening set on its way to a seven-point triumph. Southern New Hampshire bounced back, however, taking a 2-1 lead with wins in the second and third frames.

The Penmen appeared to be on their way to closing out the match, leading 16-14 midway through the fourth set, before Stonehill took control with a 7-1 run. Southern New Hampshire battled back to within two (22-20), but the Skyhawks held on to force a fifth set.

Stonehill was in good shape early in the deciding frame, leading 4-1, before a 6-0 Penmen run allowed the home team to take a 7-4 lead. The Skyhawks responded by winning the next three points to pull even, eventually regaining a one-point edge (9-8) on a kill by sophomore middle blocker Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown West). Southern New Hampshire took control from there with a crucial 4-0 run bookended by kills from Wehrmann, en route to a 15-10 fifth set victory.

Both Stonehill (6-7, 1-2 NE-10) and Southern New Hampshire (7-8, 2-1 NE-10) will be back in action on Saturday with conference contests on the road. The Skyhawks head to Colchester, Vermont to take on Saint Michael's College, while the Penmen will be in Worcester, Massachusetts for a matchup at Assumption College.
