Gaffney Named Assistant Volleyball Coach At Stonehill

Former Bryant University captain joins Kathleen Colpoys' staff

EASTON, Mass. (August 21, 2015) – Stonehill College has announced that Kendall Gaffney has joined the volleyball coaching staff as an assistant under head coach Kathleen Colpoys. The announcement was made by Colpoys, who is entering her first season at Stonehill, and confirmed by Dean O'Keefe, Director of Athletics at the College.

"I am thrilled to have Kendall join our program," Colpoys said. "Her excellent collegiate playing career and overall passion for the game, along with her background in psychology, will make her a great asset to our program on and off the court."

Gaffney is a 2014 graduate of Bryant University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in applied psychology and was a four-year member of the Bulldogs' volleyball program, serving as team captain as a senior. As an outside hitter, she totaled over 200 kills and 200 digs as a freshman in 2010, and was a two-time Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week selection.  Gaffney gained coaching experience last year with RI Blast, a club volleyball team based in Rhode Island.

Outside of volleyball, Gaffney is currently a Classroom Behavior Specialist at Lifespan School Solutions in Providence, Rhode Island, where she provides direct care and behavioral management in a special education classroom for children between the ages of 7-15.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gaffney led Cheyenne Mountain High School to consecutive state championships in 2008 and 2009, earning tournament MVP and Denver Post 4A Player of the Year honors as a senior.

Stonehill is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history last fall. The Skyhawks finished 21-8 in 2014, capturing a share of their first regular season Northeast-10 Conference championship with a league mark of 11-3 before earning the program's second NCAA Tournament bid.

Stonehill opens its 2015 campaign on Saturday, September 5th with matches against Mercy College and Caldwell University at the GCU Lions Invitational, hosted by Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. The Skyhawks then return home to Merkert Gymnasium the following Friday to host Gannon University as part of the Stonehill Skyhawks Invitational.
