Iverson, Phillips Earn AVCA Honorable Mention All-America Honors

Senior setter Emily Iverson caps her record-breaking career as an AVCA honorable mention All-American.

Stonehill co-captains led the Skyhawks to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014

EASTON, Mass. (December 4, 2014) – Stonehill College senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) and junior outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) have both earned honorable mention All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

The Stonehill co-captains and All-Northeast-10 Conference first team selections also collected a pair of All-East Region honors, first from Daktronics on November 20th and then from the AVCA earlier this week. Iverson and Phillips become the first two student-athletes in the history of the volleyball program to earn All-America honorable mention accolades.

Iverson, who was also selected as the NE-10 Player and Setter of the Year this season, led the conference with 1107 assists this fall, good for an average of 10.16 per set. The Elmhurst, Illinois native also recorded 2.05 digs and 0.69 kills per frame to go with 39 service aces (T-5th in NE-10), 26 total blocks and a team-leading .253 attack percentage, while piloting a Stonehill offense that hit .183 as a team.

Iverson finished her career as the program's all-time assists leader with a total of 4246. The four-time All-NE-10 performer became the first setter in program history to rack up over 1000 assists in a single season as a freshman, and also eclipsed the 1000-assist mark as a sophomore and senior. The only season in which Iverson did not reach 1000 was 2013, when she was limited to career-lows in both matches (19) and sets (71) due to injury.

She produced nine double-doubles (10+ assists/10+ digs) this fall, and eclipsed the 50-assist mark in five matches. Iverson's career totals include 4246 assists (10.31/set), 902 digs (2.19/set), 257 kills (0.62/set), 96 service aces (0.23/set), and 94 total blocks (0.23/set) in 110 matches and 412 sets.

Iverson has also excelled in the classroom, earning NE-10 Honor Roll status on five occasions and Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition four times. In addition, she collected a Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award as a sophomore in 2012.

Junior outside hitter Delia Phillips was named an AVCA honorable mention All-American in addition to her consecutive All-East Region selections.

A 2011 graduate of York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois, Iverson was a two-year varsity player, serving as team captain for her mother, head coach Patty Iverson. She was a two-time Academic All-Conference selection, earning All-Conference and All-Area honors as well.

Phillips, who enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore last fall, continued her dominance this season with her second consecutive All-NE-10 first team selection in addition to a pair of All-East Region nods, and now the first honorable mention All-America honor of her career.

The junior outside hitter racked up 357 kills this season (2nd in NE-10), giving her 713 over the last two years and 882 in her career. Phillips averaged 3.34 kills and 2.71 digs this fall to go with 26 service aces and 26 total blocks (four solo).

She turned in 13 double-double performances (10+ kills/10+digs) in 29 matches this season, including a 22-kill, 17-dig effort in Stonehill's 3-1 win over Southern New Hampshire University in the NE-10 Tournament quarterfinals. Phillips also produced a career-high 25 kills in a 3-2 win over Le Moyne College on November 7th.

Through the end of her junior campaign, Phillips' career totals include 882 kills (2.97/set), 725 digs (2.44/set), 80 total blocks (16 solo- 0.27/set), 70 service aces (0.24/set), and 48 assists (0.16/set) with a .184 attack percentage. She has also gotten the job done academically, earning NE-10 and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status all four semesters at Stonehill.

A 2012 graduate of Smithtown East High School in St. James New York, Phillips was a four-year letterwinner and varsity starter for head coach George Alamia. As a senior, she earned All-State second team honors and helped lead Smithtown East to a Long Island Championship and a third place finish in the state volleyball tournament.

Stonehill (21-8, 11-3 NE-10) earned a share of its first NE-10 regular season title this fall en route to the second seed in the NE-10 Tournament. The Skyhawks advanced to the semifinal round for the second consecutive season and fourth time in the last five years, before earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.
