Iverson Named NE-10 Setter Of The Week

Elmhurst, Illinois native recognized for the second time this month

EASTON, Mass. (September 30, 2014) – Stonehill College senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Week for volleyball, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.

Iverson led Stonehill to three wins in as many matches last week, as the senior captain averaged 11.82 assists and 2.55 digs per set to go with nine kills and a .409 attack percentage.

Stonehill opened its week on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory at rival Bentley University, a match in which Iverson registered 39 assists, nine digs, two blocks, and one service ace. She followed that up with 36 assists, eight digs, and three kills in a 3-0 sweep of Post University on Friday night, before racking up a season-high 55 assists to go with 11 digs and five kills in a 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday.

Iverson facilitated a Stonehill offense that produced its two best performances of the season against Post and Saint Michael's. The Skyhawks hit .301 collectively against the Eagles, a season-high, before topping that mark the following day against the Purple Knights (.304).

Through 13 matches this fall, Iverson's 10.30 assists per set are good for second in the NE-10, behind only Merrimack College's Tara Stuhr. The Elmhurst, Illinois native also averages 2.04 digs per frame to go with 30 kills (0.65 per set), 16 service aces (0.35 per set) and 13 blocks (0.28 per set). Iverson has registered four double-doubles (assists-digs) this season, and she has surpassed the 40-assist mark on five occasions.

Iverson led the Skyhawks to three wins last week, as she averaged 11.82 assists and 2.55 digs per set.

Iverson earns Setter of the Week honors from the NE-10 for the second time this season and the eighth time in her career, after doing so four times as a freshman and once in each of the past two seasons. She has been recognized by the NE-10 with All-Conference accolades in each of her three seasons as a Skyhawk, including first team honors as a freshman, second team as a sophomore, and third team as a junior last season.

As a freshman in 2011, Iverson and teammate Sydney Maxey, '14, became the first two student-athletes in the history of the Stonehill volleyball program to be selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region team. Iverson is also the only setter in Stonehill volleyball history to eclipse 1000 assists in a single season, a feat she accomplished as both a freshman and sophomore.

Midway through her senior campaign, Iverson is closing in on Stonehill's all-time assist record of 3703, set by Andrea Wirth, '11. Iverson's total of 3613 assists leaves her just 90 shy of Wirth's mark, giving her the opportunity to break the record at home, as Stonehill plays its next three matches at Merkert Gym.

Academically, Iverson has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll on five occasions and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times, in addition to earning a Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award in 2012.

Stonehill (10-3, 3-0 NE-10) is back in action tonight against Southern New Hampshire University in the third of five consecutive matches at Merkert Gym. The Skyhawks wrap up their longest homestand of the season this weekend with non-conference contests against the University of Bridgeport on Friday night and the New York Institute of Technology on Saturday morning.
