Junior outside hitter Delia Phillips matches career high with 24 kills to go with 15 digs

EASTON, Mass. (September 27, 2014) – Junior outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) hit .340 with a career-high tying 24 kills and 15 digs to lead Stonehill College to a 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-15, 25-14) victory over visiting Saint Michael's College this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action at Merkert Gymnasium.

Less than 24 hours after posting their best offensive effort of the season in a 3-0 sweep over Post University last night, the Skyhawks hit a season-high .304 as a team with 68 kills and 19 errors.

Senior middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) turned in a near perfect performance, as she hit .680 with 17 kills and no errors in 25 opportunities. Lee also got it done defensively, posting a match-high four blocks.

Senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) eclipsed the 50-assist mark for the second time this season, as she dished out 55 to help facilitate Stonehill's impressive performance on offense. Iverson also added 11 digs, good for third on the team.

Freshman libero Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) led all players with 19 digs, while classmate Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown West) hit .316 with seven kills.

Senior Meaghan Lee hit .680 with 17 kills and no errors in 25 opportunites today.

Saint Michael's was led by freshman right side hitter Megan Priester (Dover, New Hampshire/Dover), who led the Purple Knights with 12 kills to go with a .393 attack percentage.

Junior middle hitter Candace Washington (New Carrolton, Maryland/Parkdale) also posted solid numbers on offense, as she hit .467 with seven kills, while sophomore setter Catie Weller (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown West) recorded 26 assists.

Sophomore Natalie Moore (Burnt Hills, New York/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and junior Kelsey Flaherty (Cold Spring, New York/Haldane) paced the Purple Knights defensively, with 18 and 17 digs, respectively.

Saint Michael's got off to a strong start in the match, hitting .281 in the opening set and recovering from a 22-20 deficit before eventually winning 26-24.

The Purple Knights led early in the second frame, 8-3, and maintained their lead until Stonehill finally tied the match at 19 with four straight points. The teams traded the next two points, until consecutive kills by Iverson and Lee forced Saint Michael's to call a timeout.

A kill by Phillips following the timeout gave the Skyhawks a 23-20 lead, but kills by Weller and Flaherty brought the Purple Knights back to within a point. Stonehill took the set with a kill by Lee followed by a Saint Michael's setting error.

The Skyhawks did not look back after evening the match at one set apiece, as they hit .410 and .400 in the final two frames, respectively, and won each set by 10+ points.

Stonehill (10-3, 3-0 NE-10) will be back in action on Tuesday night against Southern New Hampshire University in the third of five consecutive home matches. Saint Michael's (5-4, 0-2 NE-10) will also be in action on Tuesday night, as the Purple Knights are set to travel to Rindge, New Hampshire for an NE-10 match at Franklin Pierce University.
