Stonehill Wraps Up Wildcat Invitational With Two Wins


Junior outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth had 12 kills and 12 digs in each of Stonehill's two victories at the Wildcat Invitational today.

Skyhawks lose just one set in victories over Dowling (3-0) and Wilmington (3-1)

NEWARK, Del. (September 13, 2014) – The Stonehill College volleyball team wrapped up its trip at the Wildcat Regional Invitational in Newark, Delaware, today, by losing just one set in a pair of wins over Dowling College and host Wilmington University. The Skyhawks opened their day with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-21) sweep of Dowling before defeating Wilmington, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 26-24).

Junior outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/North Attleboro) led Stonehill to a 3-0 sweep against Dowling, as she hit .458 with 12 kills, 12 digs and four aces. Classmate Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) led all players with 17 kills, and senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) registered 31 assists.

Defensively, freshman libero Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) had a match-high 18 digs, while Iverson and Phillips each added six digs.

Dowling hit just .045 in the match, including -.071 in the first set, compared to Stonehill's .270 mark in the three-frame victory. Senior Cassy Kelly (Fraser, Michigan/Fraser) and junior Yarden Amsalem (Tel Aviv, Israel/Hof HaSharon) had four kills each for the Golden Lions.

Stonehill 3, Wilmington 1

Stonehill closed out its trip in Delaware with a 3-1 victory over the host Wildcats with the help of strong performances from Weymouth, Phillips, and Iverson. Weymouth recorded 12 kills and 12 digs for the second consecutive contest, while Phillips again led all players with 18 kills to go with a team-best 15 digs.

Iverson dished out a season-high 49 assists and added 13 digs, while senior middle blocker Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, California/Academy of Our Lady of Peace) hit .355 with 12 kills and three digs.

Junior outside hitter Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Glen Burnie, Maryland/Old Mill) led the Wildcats with 20 digs and 13 kills, and junior setter Alex Siolos (East Moriches, New York/Westhampton Beach) posted a strong overall effort with 25 assists, 10 kills, and eight digs.

Following its trip to Delaware, Stonehill (6-1, 0-0 Northeast-10) returns home to open its NE-10 schedule on Tuesday night at American International College.
