Stonehill Opens Season With Two Wins At Millersville Marauder Clash


Senior setter Emily Iverson racked up 77 assists in Stonehill's two victories tonight.

Skyhawks defeat Chestnut Hill, 3-1, before sweeping Holy Family 3-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (September 5, 2014) – The Stonehill College volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign with a pair of victories tonight at the Millersville Marauder Clash, hosted by Millersville University in Millersville, Pa. Stonehill topped Chestnut Hill College, 3-1 (25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20), before sweeping Holy Family University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21).

Junior outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/North Attleboro) led the Skyhawks offensively against Chestnut Hill, recording 14 kills. Senior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Illinois/York) dished out 45 assists, and junior outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, New York/Smithtown East) chipped in with 13 kills.

Playing in her first collegiate match, freshman libero Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Indiana/Bishop Chatard) paced the defense with 24 digs, while senior middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) added three blocks.

Iverson and Weymouth again led the offensive attack against Holy Family, as Iverson recorded 32 assists and Weymouth totaled 11 kills. On the defensive end, Manuszak registered 14 digs.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 Northeast-10) will be back at it tomorrow with two more matches at the Millersville Marauder Clash. The Skyhawks will take on Shippensburg University (1-1, 0-0 PSAC) at 1 p.m., before facing Goldey-Beacom College (1-1, 0-0 CACC) at 4 p.m.
