Maxey Named To NE-10 All-Tournament Team

Senior captain averaged 2.78 digs per set and 2.11 kills per set over two matches

EASTON, Mass. (November 25, 2013) – Stonehill College senior  captain Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) was named to the Northeast-10 Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team, it was announced Saturday by the league office.

In Stonehill's 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 27-25, 15-12) comeback victory at Bentley last Tuesday night and subsequent 3-1 loss to Merrimack on Friday night, Maxey hit a team-best .340 with 2.11 kills per set, 2.78 digs per set, and five total blocks.

Against Bentley, Maxey fueled Stonehill's stunning comeback by hitting .424 with 15 kills, 14 digs, and three blocks. Stonehill recovered from a 2-0 set deficit and fought off two match points in the fourth frame to advance to the semifinals against Merrimack.

The Skyhawks were never able to find their groove against the Warriors, as Merrimack eliminated Stonehill, 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21). Maxey recorded 11 digs, four kills, two blocks, and two assists in the loss.

In her final season at Stonehill, Maxey was a key defensive player, averaging 3.01 digs per set, good for second on the team. She also contributed 1.52 kills per set and 29 total blocks, helping Stonehill to qualify for the NE-10 Championship for the fourth year in a row.
