Arvidson notches 1000th career kill, Iverson eclipses 3000 assists
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (November 15, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team recovered from a second set collapse to earn a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22) victory over Le Moyne College tonight in Northeast-10 action at Ted Grant Court. With the win, Stonehill has secured a berth in next week's NE-10 Tournament, and will host a first round match with a win tomorrow at the College of Saint Rose.
Senior captain Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) hit a match-high .385 and led all players with 18 kills to go with 5 blocks to help push Stonehill past the gritty Dolphins. Arvidson, who entered tonight's matchup with 992 career kills, went over 1000 kills in the second set and now has 1010 in a Stonehill uniform.
Junior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill.York) dished out 40 assists, while also contributing defensively with 12 digs. Like Arvidson, Iverson hit a career milestone tonight, as the junior reached 3000 career assists in Stonehill's four set victory.
Senior libero Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) recorded a match-best 21 digs along with three assists and three service aces. Frankowski's effort tonight leaves her just four digs shy of 1000 for her career.
Juniors Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) combined for 15 kills and 11 blocks, with Catton posting a match-high of seven blocks.
Le Moyne was led by junior setter Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush), who led all players with 43 assists to go with 14 digs. Maisonet entered tonight's contest averaging 9.17 assists per set, good for fourth in the NE-10.

Senior right side hitter Madison Snow (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) and freshman outside hitter Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) each posted double-doubles to keep the Dolphins competitive in tonight's match. Snow recorded a team-high 16 kills and added 10 digs, while Casson contributed 12 digs and 11 kills.
Stonehill came out of the gates hot, hitting .308 in the opening frame to take a 1-0 set lead over Le Moyne. The Skyhawks then built an 18-13 advantage in the second set, but Le Moyne stormed back with seven consecutive points, eventually winning the frame 25-23 to even the match at one set apiece.
In the third frame, Stonehill turned the tables on the Dolphins. Trailing 19-15, the Skyhawks fought back to win six of the next seven points to take a 21-20 lead, before eventually winning the set on a service ace by sophomore Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East).
Although Stonehill again led by a large margin (20-11) in the fourth set, Le Moyne once again refused to go down without a fight. The Dolphins charged all the way back to get within a point, at 23-22, before finally succumbing to Stonehill on a kill by Lee to end the set and the match.
Stonehill (17-12, 9-4 NE-10) wraps up both its two-match New York road trip, and its 2013 regular season, tomorrow at Saint Rose. Although Stonehill has already guaranteed itself a chance to compete in next week's NE-10 tournament, the Skyhawks still have a lot to play for.
With a win tomorrow in Albany, Stonehill will lock up the #3 seed in the conference tournament, and host a first round NE-10 contest next Tuesday at Merkert Gymnasium. 2013 marks the fourth consecutive season in her five-year tenure that head coach Lauren Amundson has guided Stonehill to postseason play.
Le Moyne (9-16, 3-10 NE-10) has now lost five consecutive matches, with the Dolphins last win coming on November 2nd against Saint Anselm College. Le Moyne, which will not qualify for the NE-10 tournament, closes out its 2013 schedule tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match against Bentley University.
