Bentley Deals Stonehill Difficult Loss, 3-1

Skyhawks drop fourth frame after leading 24-18

EASTON, Mass. (November 12, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team was one point away from forcing a fifth set with a six point lead, but visiting Bentley University stormed back with seven straight points, eventually winning the frame and the match, 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25) , tonight in Northeast-10 action at Merkert Gymnasium.

Sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) led Stonehill tonight, posting her 13th double-double of the season with 19 digs and 13 kills. Phillips is currently one of two players in the Northeast-10 averaging over 3 kills and 3 digs per set, the other being Southern Connecticut State University's Lauren McVey.

Junior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) hit a match-best .500 with 41 assists and ten digs, and senior libero Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) had a match-high tying 21 digs. Junior Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and senior captain Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) each contributed nine kills, while Catton also added a team-high five blocks. With her nine kills tonight, Arvidson is now within eight kills of 1000 for her career, at 992.

Senior captain Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) hit .263 with 15 digs and five kills, and junior Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) recorded eight kills and two blocks.

Bentley was led by junior middle blocker Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer-Trinity), who hit a team-high .371 with a match-best 17 kills to go with seven digs, five service aces and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) posted the Falcons lone double-double with 14 digs and 12 kills, and she also added three assists and two blocks in Bentley's four set victory.

Falcons junior setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School), who was named the Northeast-10 Setter of the Week earlier today, dished out 38 assists to go with six digs, two kills, and two blocks.

Bentley opened up tonight's match with a 25-17 win in the opening set, as the Falcons capitalized on Stonehill's .093 hitting percentage. The Skyhawks bounced back in the second frame, led by freshman setter Taylor Stevens' (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) three early service aces, to tie the match at one set apiece.

Stonehill struggled in the third frame as Bentley regained a one-set advantage, but the Skyhawks appeared poised to force a fifth and deciding set after building a 24-18 lead late in the fourth frame. Down by six points, Bentley scored seven in a row to grab a 25-24 advantage, but a kill by Maxey evened the score at 25. Bentley would go on to win the set and match on consecutive kills by Buscher, sending Stonehill off with a difficult loss.

Stonehill (16-12, 8-4 NE-10) and Bentley (16-8, 10-2 NE-10) both wrap up their 2013 campaigns this weekend with two-match road trips in New York. The Skyhawks play at Le Moyne College on Friday night and the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon, while Bentley faces off with Saint Rose on Friday, and then heads to Syracuse on Saturday for a matinee with Le Moyne.
