Stonehill Tops Saint Michael’s On Road, 3-0

Skyhawks improve NE-10 record to 3-1

Colchester, Vt. (October 4, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team won a match in three sets for the fifth time this season, sweeping host Saint Michael's College tonight by scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-23 in Northeast-10 action at Ross Sports Center.

Junior Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) had a strong overall match for Stonehill, as she recorded six kills, four service aces, and four blocks. Sophomore Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleborough, Mass./North Attleborough) had a team-high 12 digs, while also contributing five kills, four blocks, and two assists. Senior captain Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) led all players with a .375 hitting percentage, and also had team-highs in kills (8) and blocks (5).

Saint Michael's was led offensively by senior Chelsey Covitz (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), who notched 13 kills, and defensively by freshman Natalie Moore (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and junior Hillary Miller (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh/Colby Sawyer), who each had 12 digs for the Purple Knights.

Stonehill (10-5, 3-1 NE-10) will play one more match Tuesday night at Southern New Hampshire University, before heading to West Palm Beach, Fla., next Friday for the Palm Beach Atlantic Pepsi Bash at the Beach, a three-match tournament hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Skyhawks return home on Friday, October, 18th for the first of two matches on Alumni & Family Weekend. Stonehill will host Franklin Pierce University on Friday night and LIU Post on Saturday afternoon. Saint Michael's (7-5, 0-3 NE-10) will be back in action Tuesday night when it hosts Franklin Pierce in NE-10 competition.
