Stonehill Streak Ends At NYIT With 3-0 Loss

Skyhawks lose in three sets for fourth time this season

Old Westbury, N.Y. (September 28, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team had its five-match winning streak halted today by the New York Institute of Technology, as the undefeated Bears swept Stonehill 3-0 in non-conference action at Recreation Hall by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-14.

Sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) recorded a double-double for Stonehill with ten kills and 11 digs, while junior Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) added 11 kills to go with her team-high .308 hitting percentage.

NYIT was led offensively by senior outside hitters Savannah Donarski (Powell, Wyo./Casper College), and Shelby Cable (DeSoto, Mo./DeSoto), who both hit .400 or above with ten kills apiece. Cable also added a match-high 12 digs and three assists for the Bears. Senior setter Marija Jovanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Mineral Area College) dished out 34 assists and seven digs in NYIT's three set victory.

Stonehill (9-5, 2-1 NE-10) will look to rebound and start a new winning streak when it travels to Colchester, Vt. next Friday for a Northeast-10 contest with Saint Michael's College. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Friday, October 18th when conference foe Franklin Pierce University visits Merkert Gym on Alumni & Family Weekend. NYIT (12-0, 2-0 ECC) will try to extend its perfect start when it hosts LIU Post on Tuesday night.
