Skyhawks have swept opponent in four of last five matches

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (September 27, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team continued its dominance of late, sweeping Dominican College tonight at the Hennessy Center by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-21. Stonehill has now won five matches in a row, and seven of its last eight, with the only misstep being a five-set heartbreaker the Skyhawks suffered in their home opener against American International College.

Stonehill was led offensively by sophomore Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro), who hit .500 with a team-high ten kills, and junior setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York), who dished out a match-best 37 assists to go with seven kills and four digs. Sophomore Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) led all players with 15 digs, while junior Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) contributed eight kills, three digs, and a solo block for the Skyhawks.

Dominican, which came into tonight on an eight-match skid, was paced by freshman Tori Dexter (Selah, Wash./Selah), who posted team-highs in kills (11), and digs (12). The Chargers hit only .165 as a team, while Stonehill nearly doubled that mark with a .333 hitting percentage in the match.

Stonehill (9-4, 2-1 NE-10) will remain in New York and travel to Old Westbury tomorrow, where the Skyhawks will wrap up their two match road trip with a 2 p.m. contest at the New York Institute of Technology. NYIT is a perfect 10-0 so far this season, including a 3-0 sweep of Northeast-10 preseason favorite and 2012 East Region champion New Haven. Dominican (1-12, 1-2 CACC) will try to prevent its losing streak from reaching double figures tomorrow when it hosts the University of the Sciences (Pa.) for a match at noon.
