Stonehill Splits Two Matches At Charger Invitational

Skyhawks top Wilmington, 3-1; Fall to New Haven, 3-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (September 7, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Charger Invitational, defeating Wilmington University 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 29-27, but dropping their next match to the University of New Haven 21-25, 22-25, 21-25.

Senior captain Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) paced Stonehill in the first match, collecting 16 kills and 12 digs against Wilmington for her second consecutive double-double. Freshman setter Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) added 51 assists and 13 digs in the winning effort.

Sophomore Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) led Wilmington with 12 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore Alex Siolos (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) contributed with eight kills and 11 digs.

Sophomore Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) recorded Stonehill's only double-double in the loss to New Haven with ten kills and 11 digs. New Haven was led by Amber Cannady (Yonkers, N.Y./Charles E. Gorton) and Meghan Kennelly (Macomb Township, Mich./Eisenhower), who combined for 19 kills. Stonehill's Maxey was named to the Charger Invitational All-Tournament Team, after recording 28 kills and 36 digs in three games.

Stonehill opens up its Northeast-10 schedule on Tuesday at Assumption, and returns home to take on American International on September 17th for Camper Reunion Night.
